‘The best volunteer for the year 2006’

Last Sunday at the Rescue Center there was a presentation for the programs of Archelon for the year 2006. It was a very interesting presentation because you could learn about the results of the summer programs, the Rescue Center, the program LIFE, the 26th symposium on sea turtle biology and conversation,,,,,,,,

All the people of Archelon were there. Mr Dimitris Margaritoulis, Anna Margaritouli – Kremezi, Jason Margaritoulis, Benos – Palmer, Aliki, Chris, Olga, Theoni, Dina, Chrisanthi, Giorgos, Niki, Olga, Adreas and many volunteers and friends of the society!

It was a very important day for me because I received the prize for being the best volunteer for the year 2006. To be more specific the prize was given to me and to Smaro Touliatou because of our creative, efficient and dedicative offer towards the Society. Unfortunately Smaro was not there because she is in Rhodos for her studies.

Of course I know that I was not the best volunteer. I was one of the 411 volunteers who participated to the programs of Archelon for the year 2006. I think that Archelon gave us this prize because of our presentations at the Rescue Centre the last winter.

Anyway, I was deeply honoured because the prize was given to me by the president of the Society Anna Margaritouli Kremezi.

You can read about this event from the formal web site of STPS at the address

p.s. the photo that I have uploaded is from the web site of Archelon. Unfortunately it is the only photo that exists of the awarding of the prize.

THE SOUVLAKI MAN!!!!

As you know every Sunday I go to the Rescue Center. Sunday is one day dedicated to Archelon.

I stay at the Rescue Center many hours so from a point and after I feel very hungry! I don’t have the opportunity to cook something so the easiest way to eat something is to order something from the local restaurants. One of the traditions foods of Greece is called SOUVLAKI. I really like to eat souvlaki.

Every time I order for a souvlaki I ask from the others volunteers if they want to eat a souvlaki with me. So now, it is like a tradition. Every Sunday everyone orders for a souvlaki. Kim used to call this day ‘SOUVLAKI SUNDAY’.

From the last Sunday we have and a song for this day. It is written and compossed by Dimitris, an EVS volunteer from Norway!

Here are the lyrics!!!

it is sunday and all the kids are waiting
the souvlaki man is on his way
we all love souvlaki vassilis
without him there is no souvlaki sunday

and when you feel that meat going dowh your throat
you cant help but thank the Lord
thank you for souvlaki vassilis

souvlaki vassilis he is our man
the man with the souvlaki plan
thank you for souvlaki vassilis

the souvlaki man
the souvlaki man
lord we love our souvlaki
the souvlaki man

lord praise souvlaki vassili....

unfortunately I don’t have a photo of the artist but a have a beautiful photo of the scutes of a Green Turtle!!!
